Though we hope your loyal companion never needs urgent care, we know it’s possible that they may run into serious problems. At Elmvale Veterinary Hospital, we provide emergency care during our working hours.

If your pet needs emergency care outside our working hours, we encourage you to call Huronia Veterinary Emergency Clinic (HVEC) in Barrie. The emergency clinic operates when we’re closed and runs on a Triage System. All patients are assessed and prioritized based on the severity of the emergency. This clinic does not take appointments, but you can call ahead to inform them of your arrival.

What situations are considered emergencies?

We consider the following situations emergencies because they are unforeseen, cause pain, and pose an immediate threat to your pet’s life:

  • Trauma from accidents (e.g. car injuries)
  • Severe vomiting
  • Breathing problems
  • Animal bites
  • Immobility
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Retching with no vomit
  • Known ingestion of toxic or foreign objects
