At Elmvale Veterinary Hospital, we provide emergency care during our working hours from 7:30 a.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. on Saturdays. Our staff is highly trained to provide critical care to animals and have modern resources to give your pet the treatment they need. What should I expect during an emergency appointment?

During an emergency, our team will do everything to accommodate your loyal companion. To prevent having to wait or interrupting our schedules, please call ahead of time. We also ask that you let us know of any samples you brought, such as feces or urine, that require testing. If you are visiting Elmvale Veterinary Hospital for the first time, we suggest you complete the New Client Information Form before your appointment. 

What situations are considered emergencies?

We consider the following situations emergencies because they are unforeseen, cause pain, and pose an immediate threat to your pet’s life:

  • Trauma from accidents (e.g. car injuries)
  • Severe vomiting
  • Breathing problems
  • Animal bites
  • Immobility
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Retching with no vomit
  • Known ingestion of toxic or foreign objects

If your pet needs emergency care outside our working hours, we encourage you to call the Huronia Veterinary Emergency Clinic (HVEC) in Barrie. The emergency clinic operates when we’re closed and runs on a Triage System. All patients are assessed and prioritized based on the severity of the emergency. This clinic does not take appointments, but you can call ahead to inform them of your arrival.
